11x18” Mixed Media on Birch Wood Panel - Framed. Ever since I first saw one of these HUGE birds (standing about 5' tall), I wondered if Big Bird was created in their image! Shoebill Storks are docile and pose no threat to humans - if you watch some of the videos you'll see that they often bow when meeting a person! Sadly these incredible creatures are endangered and undergoing a continuing population decline owing to the effects of habitat destruction and degradation, pollution, nest disturbance, hunting, and capture for the live bird trade. How sad it would be to live in a world without these gentle giant birds.
