Art Journal January 2024
I don't know about you, but for me January felt like a very long year. Between the political chaos and intense winter storms there were times that I was starting to lose hope and optimism. On the days when I just didn't have the motivation or inspiration to paint, I played in my art journal.
Even if you think you can't draw or paint, having an art journal is so therapeutic. Some days I literally just smoosh paint around on the pages and it makes me feel better! The thing about art journals is that they're just for you, there's no pressure to 'be good' or produce anything. It's just about doing what feels good.
Meet Weaver Maureen Distler
Maureen and I first bonded over our commitment to helping rescue dogs. Although she has left Charleston and moved to NC, thankfully we can easily keep in touch through social media and occasional get togethers when she comes back to town. When Maureen started weaving I was so excited for her and have been following her amazing progress. Naturally, when I decided to start featuring those who have embraced their creativity, Maureen is the first person that came to mind!
Authenticity vs Perfection
Something interesting happened one day and it got me thinking about authenticity and perfection.
A friend came over for dinner and he poked his head into my studio. I had just rearranged it for about the umpteenth time as I tried to make the most of my small space. In the process of organizing I stuck this painting on a bulletin board.
